IHS and the Aberdeen Group Present Best-in-Class Strategies for EHS Compliance and Sustainability

Experts to discuss new research findings on managing risk and compliance in manufacturing operations

Englewood, Colo. (July 12, 2010) – IHS (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, and Aberdeen Group, a leader in fact-based research, will share best practices for executing a successful environmental, health and safety (EHS) program during an online webcast July 13 at 1:00 p.m. EDT entitled, “Best-in-Class Strategies for EHS Compliance and Sustainability.”

During the live webcast, Aberdeen Group Manufacturing Practice Research Analyst Mehul Shah and IHS Senior Director of EHS and Sustainability Solutions Jeff Ladner will share new benchmarking research on managing EHS risk and compliance and discuss the opportunities EHS compliance initiatives can present for performance improvement, operational excellence and improved corporate sustainability. Over the course of an hour, they will discuss top pressures currently driving EHS programs, the initiatives companies are putting in place to manage EHS compliance and risk, and the sustainability strategies that can be unlocked after basic compliance goals are met.

As new environmental, health and safety regulations proliferate, internal and external stakeholders are increasingly directing their attention to sustainable business. “Companies are looking for ways to reduce the cost of compliance and improve processes, while at the same time surpass corporate goals around brand equity and shareholder value,” said Ladner. “With companies facing increased pressures to improve EHS performance, we are pleased to share leading practices that may help companies implement successful programs.”

“In order to overcome the pressures associated with high compliance costs,” said Shah. “Organizations need to view compliance as more than just a cost-saving exercise, but rather view compliance as a path to better overall performance.”

The webcast will also spotlight key findings from a recently-published Aberdeen study, entitled, “EH&S Compliance Management: Steps to Improve Operational Efficiency, Safety and Energy Metrics,” including:

  • Best-in-class companies are able to reduce energy consumption by 10 percent, as compared to laggard companies, which increase energy consumption by 0.5 percent.
  • Best-in-class companies realize 87 percent Overall Equipment Effectiveness, which is 15 percent higher than laggard companies.
  • Best-in-class companies realize a 1 percent repeat accident rate, as compared to laggard companies, which realize an 11 percent repeat accident rate.
  • Best-in-class companies are able to effectively manage safety incidents by and 0.1 accidents per 100 full-time employees.
  • Best-in-class companies are 65 percent more likely than laggard companies to have a formal EHS management system in place.

At the conclusion of the event, registrants will be able to ask questions of the speakers during a live Q&A session. Registrants will also receive a complimentary copy of the Aberdeen report.
